The PSMF’s 2012-2020 initiative was a voluntary, free initiative in which hospitals would make a commitment around one or multiple of our Actionable Patient Safety Solutions (APSS). These commitments were designed to showcase how a hospital or healthcare institution is improving safety and solving a patient safety challenge. Hospitals and healthcare organizations self-reported how many lives they believed to have saved through their commitment, updating the PSMF annually. (June 2012- September 2020)
Beginning in 2018, the Patient Safety Movement Foundation offered a new approach to give hospitals and healthcare organizations the chance to reach the PSMF’s 5-star award. This award was based on the number of commitments hospitals made in alignment with processes designed to help them eliminate preventable deaths, called Actionable Patient Safety Solutions (APSS).
