There are so many organizations that are doing great work related to Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs) but an astounding number are not and this work is crucial to performance improvement. Meaningful and sustainable incorporation of the patient and family perspective is no longer optional for organizations that strive for high reliability. The panelists will discuss the background of person-centered care, the history of its incorporation in the clinical setting, and the introduction of PFACs, current organizational barriers to implementing and sustaining PFACs, recommendations to nurture involvement in and meaningful use of PFACs, and strategies for participant onboarding into PFACs and organizational introduction to PFACs on the journey toward high reliability.
