Challenge 19: Restraint Safety

The use of restraints is only appropriate if the patient is a danger to themselves or others. Hospitals must have a clear and standardized protocol for the appropriateness of implementing restraints, the vetting process of other possible mechanisms, the type of restraints that should be used, and the monitoring and re-evaluation required. Our APSS Blueprints provide healthcare organizations with practical, evidence-based checklists and protocols to establish a restraint safety program.
