Letter from the Chairman, January 2019

Dear Readers,

I wish you all a very happy and healthy new year.  What is your New Year’s Resolution this year? If you’re not sure and you have not done so yet, choose being the leader in your institution that will get your hospital to ZERO preventable deaths. Data and innovation is king, but action out of kindness is god.  I have seen how hospitals go from hoping for zero to planning for zero. It always starts with one person taking action. Tie a portion of the faculty bonus to zero preventable deaths. Visit our web site and look at Actionable Patient Safety Solutions and review the executive summaries of each. Mark green the ones you are doing and mark red the ones you are not doing. Come up with a plan to turn the reds into green. The Patient Safety Movement is all about action, encouraging all stakeholders to get involved by making commitments to improve patient safety not just by hoping but by planning. So, in 2019, don’t just hope for ZERO, plan for ZERO. Let’s make 2019 the best for patients! We, or one of our loved ones, could be patients.

In just 16 short days, we’ll be at the 7th Annual World Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit. If you haven’t registered yet, please join us. I hope to see you there!
