September 16 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm PDT
Around the World
We invite you to join us at our upcoming virtual webinar on “Safe and respectful maternal and newborn healthcare in prisons and refugee camps” on Thursday, 16 September 2021 at 12pm -1:30pm BST.
The session is organised to mark World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) dedicated to safe maternal and newborn care in recognition of the significant burden of avoidable harm women and newborns are exposed to due to unsafe care, particularly around the time of childbirth. This is especially important in the context of disruption of health services due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has further compounded the situation.
With over 60000 pregnant women incarcerated in prisons worldwide and often lacking access to antenatal care at the same level as that available in their communities, IAPO will be hosting this webinar to highlight some of the changes needed in institutional, international law, policy, practice and standards framework to bring about safe and respectable maternal and new-born care as a fundamental right in for women in prisons and refugee camps.
The speakers, Penilla Gunther, Former Member of Swedish Parliament and Founder of FOKUS Patient, Lars Klingsbo – Founder EEZER AB and Kawaldip Sehmi, CEO IAPO will join the global patient community to discuss the next steps and best practices in prioritizing safety for mothers and newborns in prisons and refugee camps and the role that patient organizations can play.
