Dr. Henderson is a surgeon:  he graduated from the University of St. Andrews and trained in Edinburgh, Scotland.  He came to Emory University in Atlanta in 1978 and moved to Cleveland Clinic in 1992 as Chair of General Surgery and Director of The Transplant Center.  His clinical interests are in liver, pancreas and transplant surgery, areas in which he developed an international reputation and had NIH funding.

Dr. Henderson uses a goal-oriented approach to drive Quality.  He builds teams that include all caregivers from the clinical frontline, content experts, and performance improvement to reduce variability.  The goal he sets for these teams is to keep to the basics, always seek to eliminate harm and improve patient outcomes in context of a good patient experience.
